Are THE FRAGRANCE PEOPLE's taper candles drip-less?

The secret key to this answer is the right burning conditions. Our Taper candles are specially manufactured to be dripless in application. It is important to trim the wick to 1/4"" before lighting, to keep the tapers away from drafts which might blow the flame sideways, to burn them some distance apart so that heat is not transferred, and most importantly to keep them standing straight in their candlesticks so wax doesn't spill over the edge.

Can I improve taper burn?

Yes. Just refrigerate the tapers for an hour before burning. Make sure you put them in a bag first or the wick will absorb moisture.

What causes a candle to burn unevenly?

Drafts again are the reason - causing the flame to burn to one side. Another reason could be that the holder is not resting on a level surface and the wick is not centered and straight.

How do I polish my candles?

Gently rub with a nylon stocking to bring back original shine.

Why do some candles give off smoke?

Once again the key to this answer is proper burning conditions. Always trim wicks to 1/4" before lighting. If a high flame or smoking is noted during a burn, extinguish, trim the wick again to 1/4" and relight. Drafts can also be an important factor. They can cause a candle to burn unevenly exposing more wick than necessary. Remember, air vents, open windows, overhead fans all create air currents that will cause the flame to smoke.

Is candle soot harmful?

No. The minuscule amount of soot produced by a candle is a natural byproduct of incomplete combustion. Candle soot is similar to everyday household sources of soot such as from kitchen toasters and cooking oils and is not considered a health concern.

How do I avoid wax fade?

Keep candles out of direct sunlight and out of direct strong lights. It is also advised to store candles in a cool and dry place.

How should I store my candles?

Store candles in a cool, dark and dry place and keep like scents together. Candles have different melting points, so never leave candles in your car on warm days.

How do I remove spilt wax from benchtops?

Let the wax cool. Use a plastic spatula to scrape off excess and a mild abrasive cleaner to remove the rest.

Why wouldn't I be getting any scent?

An exceedingly complex area. The candle's ability to 'throw' a scent is affected by: wax type; quality of scent; amount of scent, its manufacture and size of room.

Why would a Jar candle have air bubbles?

These are known as 'wet spots' and are caused by a variety of things, particularly the adhesion between the wax and the jar. Some are controllable, some are not. THE FRAGRANCE PEOPLE uses a variety of techniques to minimise the effect, including a special blend of wax.

What's a good tip for votives?

Drop a teaspoon or two of water into the votive holder before putting the votive in. This will help the candle to slide out for replacement.

Why is the flame so low? How do I fix this?

The flame may become low if the candle has burned for more hours than normal. Wax that has formed on the sides melts and reduces the length of the exposed wick. If the flame is too low, and there is melted wax in the pool under the flame, blow out the candle carefully, pour out a small amount of wax and relight. While doing this, carefully expose more of the wick by digging out a little wax around the wick. This should allow the candle to be relit.

Why does the flame seem so high? How do I fix this?

If the flame of any candle seems too high, chances are the wick needs to be trimmed. Blow out the candle, trim the wick and relight the candle. This should correct the problem.

How do I remove wax from carpeting or fabric?

When the wax has hardened, gently remove the larger pieces of wax. After you have removed the larger pieces of wax, get a clean paper towel and place it over the wax spill. Using an iron on a low setting, or a blow dryer on its lowest heat setting, warm the paper towel. The wax under the towel will begin to melt and soak up into the towel. Blot the wax and repeat as necessary until wax is removed. We highly recommend consulting the fabric manufacturer's instructions before trying this trick.

How do I remove wax from wood surfaces?

Follow the instructions above for removing wax from fabric/carpet. Be sure to use a dull object when removing the larger chips of wax so you won't ruin your wood finish. Once you warm the paper towel over the wax spill, just wipe away the wax from the surface.
